Today's Seminar on Medical Informatics

It's almost a month I haven't posted anything in my site. It was my annual offline leave anyway hehe.. No it was actually not. There're so many things to do and the clock these recent months seemed to run more quickly. Whatever the reasons, I should come back to the online world and keep sharing to others.

Today, the Press and Cyber Community (PCYCO) Udayana Faculty of Medicine invited me as one of the speakers for a medical informatics seminar with the theme - "Informatics Meets Medical Community". This was my second seminar in this two months as a speaker. One of them was during a parallel session in a National Seminar on Primary Health Care and MDGs in which I was also the chair of the seminar.

In today's seminar, my topic was about "E-learning guide for medical and health education", while two other speakers, Dr. Anwar Santosa, SpJP, PhD talked about Evidence Based Medicine and dr. Deddy Andaka presented about Blog as a trend in medical community. To be honest I was a bit not confident. I felt that this is not my expertise. Rather I am just a novice user in this area. I know some colleagues such as dr Dani Iswara might be more appropriate to deliver this presentation.

But that's life sometimes we should accept the challenge. What I did was to remember what I experienced during my study in Monash University. Because some of the courses I took was delivered through blended learning, combining face-to-face and online learning using MUSO (Monash University Studies Online-managed via a Virtual Learning Environment or Learning Management System, Blackboard). I would then try to highlight what are the main principles and components of e-learning and what should be taken into account if e-learning is applied in medical education. Furthermore, I tried to present some applicable processes such as how to utilise 'Podcasts' in medical education, some resources on how to create audio and video files, how to facilitate online learning and some useful websites need to visit to make medical education more engaging. I hope though, with my limitation in this area I could share some information.

Finally, I should congratulate the organiser of this event, thanks for inviting me and I apologize if my paper and presentation didn't meet the requirements.
