World AIDS Day

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) menginfeksi sel-sel sistem kekebalan tubuh dan menyebabkan terjadinya kerusakan progresif dari sistem kekebalan tubuh, menghilangkan kemampuan tubuh untuk menangkis beberapa infeksi dan penyakit lainnya. AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome) merupakan tahapan lanjut dari infeksi HIV, ditandai dengan terjadinya salah satu dari lebih dari 20 infeksi oportunistik atau kanker terkait.

Alasan kenapa HIV tidak menular melalui gigitan nyamuk

Sampai saat ini belum ada bukti Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) bisa ditularkan melalui gigitan nyamuk. Ada beberapa alasan dan bukti ilmiah yang mendukung pendapat ini.
Alasan utama adalah hidup virus HIV sangat tergantung pada sel T yang terdapat dalam darah manusia. Sel T merupakan salah satu anggota kelompok sel darah putih yang berperan dalam sistem kekebalan tubuh manusia. Ada sel T, virus HIV hidup, tidak ada sel T virus ini akan mati. Saat nyamuk mengisap darah penderita HIV positif, virus akan masuk ke sistem pencernaan nyamuk. Disini tidak ada sel T manusia yang menyebabkan virus tersebut akan mati. Berbeda halnya dengan jarum suntik kecil yang bisa membuat sel-sel darah manusia (termasuk sel T) terperangkap dan bertahan dalam beberapa jam. Hal ini membuat virus HIV bisa berkembang biak dan kalau jarum yang sama disuntikkan ke orang lain bisa menyebabkan terjadi penularan. Hal serupa juga terjadi pada penyakit demam berdarah dimana adanya nyamuk perantara khusus membuat virus Dengue bisa hidup dan berkembang biak dan menyebabkan penyakit ini menular melalui gigitan nyamuk

Finally, the seminar on Primary Health Care (PHC) and MDGs, was held today. I should say thanks for everyones who has supported this event.

HIV/AIDS has brought a considerably negative stigma with a wide-range of the population as well as having influences on the psyches of people living with HIV.

Indeed, the stigma has influence not only on the psychology of infected people, but also the people who live with them.

Public Disclosure of HIV Status in Indonesia

In most countries, HIV infected individuals find difficulties in making a decision whether they will disclose their status or not. There are some who assert that public disclosure will give many benefits, especially for increasing public safety. However, others still contend that it is not an easy decision due to the dread of public stigmatisation and discrimination. This paper seeks to show that, in Indonesia, HIV positive status should be revealed in some situations by considering the right to privacy, sexual partners’ consent, and community’s readiness for receiving such a disclosure; meanwhile maintaining infected people’s dignity.
